ADSI Adds FMEA and DSM Quality Functions to Acclaro Designer Software

Brighton, MA, July 1, 2005 Axiomatic Design Solutions, Inc. (ADSI) announces a new version, v4.0, of its Acclaro Designer software.

With the release of Version 4, Acclaro Designer offers two additional significant tools to its toolkit that enable pre-emptive design quality for service and product industries.

  • FMEA: Acclaro Designer now includes the functionality to perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) augmenting existing risk assessment and communication tools of waterfall and risk assessment charts. This risk management technique is widely used by design teams to assess and mitigate failure modes of products, systems and services. While Acclaros FMEA module can be used as a stand-alone tool, it can be used even more effectively integrated into an Axiomatic Design DFSS framework. Acclaros FMEA functionality and reporting format complies with QS-9000 standards and Revision 3 of the AIAG FMEA Manual. FMEA is also known as Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), SFMEA (for conceptual designs), DFMEA (used for design) and PFMEA (used for processes).

  • DSM: Acclaro Designer now also integrates advanced Design Structure Matrix (DSM) techniques into its suite of design quality functions. DSM tools provide methods for visualizing process or product design dependencies to optimize approaches to implementation and changes, reducing the high cost and waste of reiteration. DSM will also cluster dependencies to identify logically related design elements to improve decision-making about design modularity, outsourcing, and team co-location, for example. Commonly used in the aerospace, medical, construction and automotive industries, DSM is used for systems engineering, task scheduling, organizational and facilities design. Design Structure Matrices are also sometimes called Dependency Structure Matrices.

In addition, Acclaro Designer V4.0 features improved user interaction including Drag & Drop editing and a context-sensitive right-click popup menu for quick access to relevant menu selections.

About Axiomatic Design Solutions, Inc.

Axiomatic Design Solutions works with the management of leading companies to create better Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) Processes. Using MIT's remarkable Axiomatic Design technology, we provide a pre-emptive process framework that enables robust design for organizations, systems and products at the critical early phase of development, design synthesis. Our services and solutions permit organizations to "Get it right" the first time. The more complex the task, the more impact our technology has in reducing development risk, costs and time to market.

If it's not Axiomatic, it's not DFSS.
